Eligibility for the FIFE Fund

  1. Are you reading for an undergraduate programme in this academic year?

  2. Are you already a FIFE Fund recipient?

  3. Are you a local student?

    (i.e. you have the right of abode in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, or have resided and have your home in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) continuously for 3 complete years immediately prior to admission to HKU. Students who stay in the HKSAR holding student visas do not fall into this category.)

  4. Are you a full-time student?

  5. Are you the first-generation university student in the family? (i.e. both your parent(s) and grandparent(s) do not have any university education.)

  6. Are you admitted to the University of Hong Kong on or after September 2008?

  7. The monthly household income limit for the regular exercise is HK$31,561 (for 4-person family) or HK$7,890 (per person). Does your monthly household income# fall within the limit?
    # The total monthly household income includes (a) 100% of the gross monthly income of parent(s) or spouse (for a married applicant) who provide(s) financial support to the applicant, plus (b) 30% of the income of unmarried sibling(s) residing with the family.

  8. The assets limit for the regular exercise is HK$305,000 per family member. Does your total value of savings and assets# fall within the limit (i.e. not exceeding HK$305,000 per person)?
    # Assets include bank deposits (saving/current/time deposits), investment (stock/shares/warrants/funds), cash in hand, loan to others, business undertaking, gold and platinum, land, properties, carpark, vehicle, vessels, taxi /public light bus license, but exclude self-occupied property.

For those who applied for the means-tested Grants and Loan, please submit your Grant/Loan application form and the results notification from the HKSAR Government.
For those who have not applied for TSFS or have only applied for Non-means-tested Loan Scheme, please submit documentary proof of family income, savings and assets, such as copies of tax returns and bank statements of the applicants and their family members.

Planned Usage of FIFE Fund

The FIFE Fund supports each eligible awardee with $15,000 to participate in university-administered/supported outside classroom learning activities. Please refer to the website for the list of supported activities.

Personal Information Collection Statement

The personal information including that of parents or guardians and other family members of applicants collected during the application process will be used for the purpose of reviewing the eligibility of applicants only. Please note that it is mandatory for you to provide personal information marked with asterisks below. Such personal information will be shared with the members of the governance steering committee and authorized staff at CEDARS on a need-to-know basis. In the event that you do not provide the required information listed below, CEDARS may not be able to proceed with your application.

For students who have NOT applied for TSFS or ONLY applied for Non-means-tested Loan Scheme for Full-time Tertiary Students (NLSFT):

For students who have applied for Government Tertiary Student Finance Scheme (TSFS):

CEDARS, HKU, is committed to meeting internationally-recognised standards of personal data privacy protection, in compliance with the requirements of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. In doing so, it will be ensured that our staff comply with the strictest standards of security and confidentiality. The personal information collected during the application process will be purged after 1 year from the year of submission.

Under the Ordinance, you have the right to request access to and correction of your personal information held by CEDARS. Should you wish to access or correct your personal information held by CEDARS, please present your enquiry or request to the University’s Data Protection Officer c/o Registry, Knowles Building, Pokfulam Road, Hong Kong or by email to privacy@reg.hku.hk. Data access request should be made by completing and submitting the Data Access Request Form. A reasonable fee will be charged for the processing of any data access request.
